Larry’s story is one of strength, kindness, and a friendship that came just in time. In 2002, he was among over 100 animals rescued when the Sarasota Bradenton Children’s Zoo closed. Unfortunately, stolen records left much of Larry’s past unknown, though a tattoo on his face suggests he may have come from a research facility—likely a challenging experience. At the zoo, a veterinarian controversially removed Larry’s teeth to make him “easier to handle.”

Before finally arriving at Jungle Friends, Larry spent time at Forest Animal Rescue, where he was part of a close-knit family of capuchins. There, he held the role of “alpha” male, until his son grew older and began challenging him for leadership. For Larry’s safety, he was eventually separated along with two elderly companions. Sadly, both passed away, leaving Larry alone and in need of a gentle friend.

Larry’s fortunes changed at Jungle Friends, where he met Ben, another white-faced capuchin. The two quickly became inseparable, and Larry found the companionship he’d long deserved.

Today, Larry spends his days peacefully at Jungle Friends, surrounded by warmth and care. Once marked by hardship, his journey now shines as a tribute to second chances and the healing power of sanctuary.
