Alex, his sister Jake, and Aunt Gizmo were born at Wooster College in Ohio, where they were involved in cognitive and behavioral research throughout their lives. Fortunately, after the research concluded, the entire family was able to retire to sunny Florida. Alex was 30 years old when he arrived at Jungle Friends.

Both Alex and his companion, Aunt Gizmo, are diabetic and are managed with medication and a specialized diet. Despite this, Alex still eagerly interacts with the care staff, often calling out to them and reaching out for an extra grape or another special treat. His latest blood work from November 2023 indicates that his health is on the upswing!

Alex quickly adjusted to life at the sanctuary and was the first of his group to explore the outdoors. His favorite pastime involves using a stick to tamper with his automatic water dispenser, creating a playful mud puddle.

Like his kindred famous doppelganger, Alex Trebek, Monkey Alex navigates his world with a blend of intelligence, sociability, and resilience.
