Toothless
April and Max were familiar sights at fairs and carnivals, where they captivated the public's attention. However, their participation came at a cost—both monkeys had to endure full-mouth tooth extractions to ensure the safety of carnival attendees during photo opportunities. Their 75-year-old owner, who had formed strong bonds with the primates while living with them year-round in a 5th-wheel RV, decided it was time for him and the monkeys to retire from their nomadic lifestyle.
Their path brought them to Jungle Friends Sanctuary, where they could finally find solace in a well-deserved retirement. With the help of Jungle Friends' supporters' generous contributions, funds were raised to construct a habitat tailored for April and Max, providing them with a permanent home. However, it became apparent that April and Max's relationship didn't unfold as harmoniously as anticipated. As a result, April sought companionship with Mongo; another toothless monkey found at an abandoned rest stop.
Mongo and April quickly formed a strong bond, spending their days searching for special treats hidden beneath the earth. They eagerly enjoy our specially crafted diets, designed for our "toothless wonders," as we fondly refer to them. Our menu includes delicious cooked veggies, pasta, and oatmeal, accompanied by biscuits soaked in broth for added tenderness. These two are incredibly resourceful and adept chefs in their own right, particularly when it comes to turning nuts into creamy butter. Cashews are their preferred choice, effortlessly mashed into a smooth paste. They've even been observed skillfully scraping apples into a sauce-like consistency reminiscent of applesauce. Despite their lack of teeth, Mongo and April prove themselves as culinary masters.
Like her kindred famous doppelganger, Julia Child, April has a passion for cuisine and a warm, inviting personality.
