Ex-Pet
Majestic Reflector
KC arrived at Jungle Friends with a small mirror, her only companion during 30 years as a "pet." This mirror reflected the only monkey she had ever seen—herself. In 2012, her owner decided it was time for KC to find a new home and brought her to Jungle Friends, hoping she would bond with other monkeys.
At Jungle Friends, KC quickly adapted to her new environment but continued to use her mirror for companionship. She would talk to her mirror and try to feed it, which was very sad to see.
Then KC met Bongo, a survivor of nearly two decades of iron toxicity studies in a research laboratory, and they became fast friends. Bongo had lost the use of his legs, and KC cared for him, groomed him, and stood by him. Then the miracle happened—Bongo got up and walked!
Now, KC and Bongo are often seen together, basking in the sun and grooming one another, the mirror forgotten. The reflection that once symbolized her solitary existence has been replaced by the warmth of a true friend. The monkey in the mirror is no more; KC has found her place, and in Bongo, a comapion.
KC's spirit doppelganger is Robin Roberts, the television broadcaster who is known for her remarkable resilience, strength, and positivity. Both are known for their compassionate and caring nature and lifting those around them up.
