Harley is the kind of monkey who makes you feel welcome the moment you arrive. Whether you’re a longtime friend or someone he’s meeting for the first time, he’ll often greet you by placing his hand over his heart and flashing a warm, unmistakable smile. It’s his signature move, and just one of many ways he brings light to the sanctuary. 

Harley and his companion Missy came to Jungle Friends after being surrendered from their former lives as pets. Harley arrived with a serious medical condition: diabetes. At the time, he required 25 units of insulin daily. But with access to a healthier diet, plenty of exercise, and consistent veterinary care, his insulin needs have dropped dramatically, and now he gets just nine units a day. Despite the daily injections and routines that come with managing his condition, Harley remains calm, cooperative, and full of good-natured charm. 

Kind, social, and steady, Harley has a gift for connection. He is especially close to Missy, his constant companion and favorite playmate. The two spend their days wrestling gently in the sun, grooming one another, and exploring every corner of their habitat together. One of Harley’s favorite solo activities is digging through the pine straw at the bottom of his enclosure, carefully foraging for bugs and other hidden treasures, proof that even in quiet moments, his curiosity never rests. 

There’s something quietly inspiring about Harley. He meets each day with resilience, sweetness, and a steady presence that puts others at ease. While he may not seek the spotlight, he’s the heart of his little corner of the sanctuary, and a reminder that strength and kindness often go hand in hand.
