Picture Perfect Pipsqueak
Jungle Friends welcomed Daisy, a spunky brown capuchin, on the afternoon of April 27, 2019. Daisy made national headlines when she was found in Chicago at an ambulance service garage. Read the story here and view the post on the Facebook page of Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC).
While it is illegal to have a primate as a pet in Illinois, residents who had lawful possession of a primate before January 1, 2011, are permitted to own one. Many people came forward to claim Daisy as their pet, but no one could prove lawful ownership. CACC decided to transfer her to an accredited primate sanctuary, and Jungle Friends was chosen.
After staying at CACC, plans were made to release her to Jungle Friends. Working in conjunction with two primate sanctuary founders—Scott Kubisch of Peaceable Primate Sanctuary in Winamac, Indiana, and April Truitt of Primate Rescue Center in Nicholasville, Kentucky—Daisy was transported by car and private plane from Chicago to Gainesville, Florida. Now, she enjoys her life in a neo-tropical natural habitat, living an “Almost Wild” life.
Daisy’s spirited personality quickly became clear. She’s not just full of energy; she’s also taken a liking to the camera. In fact, she’s so determined to be the photographer that it’s nearly impossible to get a good shot of her or her companion, Leo. If there’s a camera around, Daisy is all over it—ready to steal the spotlight (aka camera) herself. At Jungle Friends, we’ve come to appreciate Daisy’s spunky and playful nature.
Daisy's spirit doppelganger is famed photographer, Annie Liebowitz. Just like Annie, Daisy has a knack for "taking control" of the camera and making sure she’s the one directing the shots.
As a little monkey, Daisy was the picture of cuteness—those big eyes and playful spirit melted hearts from day one.
Young, wild, and a little bit naughty—Daisy’s always stirring up fun at Jungle Friends.
This spunky girl never sits still—Daisy’s always up to something.
Daisy’s too quick for the camera—unless she’s trying to snag it herself
—this troublemaker is more interested in stealing the spotlight (aka camera)!
Curious from the start, little Daisy had to taste and nibble on everything she could get her tiny hands on!
